The sun was shining for Worcester Triathlon’s Club annual Top Barn Triathlon on Sunday 30th June. The event had to be changed to a duathlon last minute due to problems with the water and therefore the competitors had to run before embarking on the bike leg, instead of swimming.

The triple sprint competitors set off first doing 3 laps of each distance. Worcester Triathlon Club’s relay team of Andy Day, Neill Crump and Carl Kendall completed the 6.5km run, 75km cycle, 15km run course first in a time of 3 hrs 58 mins. Andy Norris was the first individual athlete home in a time of 4hrs 5mins and the first female home was Yvonne Brindley in a time of 5hrs 37 mins.

Next off were the double sprint athletes.  Adam Thomson was the first male to complete the 5km run, 50km cycle, 10km run in a time of 2 hrs 34 mins and new Worcester Tri Club member Adam Jackson finished 2nd overall. The first female finisher was Jennie Spillane who completed the course in 3 hrs 9 mins.

Finally, the single sprint athletes set off on a lung busting 1500m run, 25km bike and 5km run. A fast run pace was set from the start by Aled Jones. He maintained his lead throughout the race and finished first in a time of 1 hr 11 mins. Worcester Triathlon Club member Richard Gourlay was 3rd in a very creditable 1hr 16 mins after having mechanical problems on the bike.
