Hi Top-Barners, marshalls, racers and club members,

Well the 6th Top Barn event has finished and I can not thank all of you enough for your efforts. The last three or four years have gone relatively smoothly so I suppose we were due a difficult race sooner or later! Removing the swim due to safety reasons was not an easy decision, especially given what a lovely day it ended up as but in hindsight it was the right call for the right reasons.

Can I just say a huge thank you to the club and St Richards marshalls for their efforts in assisting the athletes on the day and to Nick for co-0rdinating them so professionally. Everyone who volunteers their time plays a big part in making the event a success, whether you were putting up transition, erecting signs, manning reception or parking cars, each task is essential to giving everyone who attends a well-organised race.

Athletes and racers, can I also say a big thank you for turning up and racing with the revised format. Everyone really attacked the course with vigour and enthusiasm and we thank you for your support.

Can I also say a big thank you to Henry Walker and the junior members for their efforts in helping putting the goodie bags together Saturday morning. This literally saved us hours based on previous years – your help was invaluable.

Thanks to Lisa, Phil, Duncan and Les for assisting with the organisation and arrangements of the cancellation arrangements. They got through well over 200 emails between them in just over 24 hours. Thanks to Chas Jnr, Carl, Kirk and Russ for working with Rob at Top Barn and Karl at USN to help get the venue looking great. All that whilst maintaining jobs, families, training, exams and Mud-runners!

The results are up on Stuweb if you want to check how you got on.  It was a great day’s racing with lots of amazing efforts in all three races. A more detailed race report will appear later on so please check back later.

If you lost anything on the day we haev a few items of lost property. If you raised it on the day but we did not have it – we might now, so please contact us and we will try and re-unite you with your belongings.

On the negative side, we had a report from a local resident on Hallow Lane of a racer who may have shouted some vulgar verbal abuse at a driver when overtaking some pedestrians. If this was you, or you have any information regarding this, we would be really keen to hear from you. We pride ourselves in working with our local stakeholders and if this sort of behaviour is associated with the race, is not acceptable and will not aid us using the route in future years.

If you have had time to reflect on this or just want to give us some feedback on what you enjoyed or ways we can improve, please drop us an email to [email protected].

Many thanks and we really look forward to next year’s race, hopefully involving some swimming as well!
