A third place result in the 50-55 year age group at the Ellesmere Triathlon has resulted in Worcester Triathlon Club’s Rachel Ward qualifying for the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series Grand Final in Beijing in September.
Ward completed the 1500 metre swim in the Mere in 29 minutes 15 seconds followed by a 40 kilometre bike-ride through the scenic Shropshire countryside in 1:15:43. The final run section which followed a hilly course of 10km through the Cremorne Gardens took 48:20 giving a total time, including transitions, of two hours, 35 minutes 14 seconds which also made Ward the third fastest West Midlands female overall.
